A Message from HPLL President

Please see below a message from our President:

On behalf of High Plains Little League (HPLL), we hope that all of our families are doing well during this unprecedented time in our history.  As an all-volunteer board of directors, for a non-profit organization, affiliated with Little League International, we are facing some hard decisions as a league.  Not only as the President of this league, but also as a parent of a player just like you, I wish for answers. Unfortunately, we are still in a holding period as the District continues to deliberate and work to try to make this season the best it can be.

We are and have been taking our direction for our suspension dates from Little League International (LLI). We will continue to follow their guidance on when play can be resumed.  Rest assured we have come up with scenarios on how our season would look should we begin on May 11th.  HPLL has worked with our partners in D49 and El Paso Counties for our field usage and what an extension of our season would look like with them.  HPLL board members gathered via a conference call this week and the overriding theme of the meeting was to make this season happen so we can bring some normalcy back to our children.  Every one of our board members are committed to this task.

Before there was any hint of the season being postponed, our league incurred costs of the tryout facility, uniform purchases, and a commitment to the County for the construction of another field and restrooms at Falcon Regional Park.  We understand that these aren’t easy times for anyone right now and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we try to figure out what our season is going to look like. We as a Nation, State and Community are trying to figure out how and when we can go back to normal operations. We as a Little League, serving the community, will be ready to go with a season that our children deserve to have.  The decisions that are being made are not taken lightly and our future as a league is depending on sound and rational decisions in a time like this. The board will continue to hold meetings as we receive information. District 5 LL is scheduled to meet again on April 26th. We hope to have more answers by then. As the league President, I am committed to passing along information as I receive it.  I ask that you please remain patient as we weave our way through all of these unknowns right now.  Thanks for your time and stay healthy.
